Opinions Don’t Matter
Have you ever made a decision in your life, only to be judged harshly by the people around you? Do you feel like you must comply with what people think as normal or appropriate? You really don't have to worry about any of these things because you don't need to care about what other people think! "But why?" I hear you asking. Because people's opinions don't matter. I have listed for you the three most important reasons why you should not waste time wondering what other people think of you.
You Can’t Please Everyone
It's a simple truth. Your actions might be appreciated by one person, but they are bound to be hated by another. This happens because every person's perspective is different and there is nothing that you can do to change that, so trying to not please anybody is the best way to go about this.
People’s Opinion Change
People and their opinions change, that's something essential for us because it's the only way we can grow. For example, one person might believe that LGBT people should not be treated fairly and after a few months, they might be supporting LGBT rights! You never know how people change and this highlights the fact that opinions are just a temporary thing that you shouldn't be overly concerned about.
You Don’t Need to Please Them
Why do you need to please other people if you're getting absolutely nothing out of it? There is literally no benefit for you from trying to conform to other people's opinions. They can like what they want but that shouldn't stop you from being you. Your business is yours and their business is theirs.
You Will Not Be Yourself
If you are being your 'real' self and you suddenly want to change that because you are not liked by somebody, then you stop being your 'real' self. When you start acting differently than usual that's pretending to be someone you aren't. Therefore, the more you're trying to please, the more you will lose identity and find yourself living as a prisoner of people's opinion.
It seems very natural for us to avoid criticism about our actions in life. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't also trust our gut. On the other hand, we need to oppose our desire to be liked by other people. In doing so we're protecting ourselves. Be who you are and don't give other people's opinion any value. You will feel freer and you will be happy the less you care so why not do just that?
