Burger King Relationships Or Have It Your Way
“A favorite activity of the moronic majority, this involves being shunted like cattle into a converted warehouse… sadly not to be slaughtered, but to wear ridiculous trendy clothes, listen to crap eardrum-shattering music, try to pick up brainless members of the opposite sex, and generally stand around aimlessly in a desperate but pointless attempt to show how cool you are.” (The Urban Dictionary)
A comical definition but a definitely sad scenario. You ever wonder what the statistics are of the successful and/or failed relationships enjoined (enjoyed) as the result of “clubbing”? Ever wonder about STD or Aids contraction rates?
I believe Paul pretty much sums it up in his Galatians discourse regarding the “works of the flesh” or to paraphrase….”the consequences of following our lower natures attempting to have it your way” ………….
Mental and emotional garbage
“ It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on…….
This isn’t the first time I have warned you, you know. If you use your freedom this way, you will not inherit God’s kingdom…….”
(From The Message Bible)
We can’t keep calling good evil and evil good when it comes to what I call “flesh fests”. Frequenting clubs (meat markets) and grabbing a piece of meat is fruitless, pointless, useless, worthless, and ultimately dangerous. By now we’ve all heard the definition of insanity….”Doing the same thing while expecting different results.” Go back and review what Paul says about ALL the emotional and psychological damage “having it our way” causes. At some point I promise we will get “sick and tired of being sick and tired” or die trying to HAVE IT OUR WAY!
