Growing Through Adversity

“If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small” (Proverbs)

There are times when my life gets extremely difficult. Please notice I didn’t say a little difficult or somewhat difficult but I said “extremely” difficult. Is there anyone you know who actually enjoys adversity, affliction, hardship, and/or danger? Most of the people I know, including myself, choose to avoid it at all cost. I honestly resent difficulties. But I’m slowly coming to understand that life’s difficulties and hardships measure my strength and endurance and test my faith in God. Without adversity, afflictions, and difficulty how would I demonstrate “faith” or “strength”? Sure I could go around bragging about how tough I was but talk is pretty cheap nowadays-RIGHT? Until I am “proved” through enduring a test or trial my words are vain (empty).

I’ve discovered that God allows adversity in my life to show me how much more I’m willing to trust HIM instead of myself. He will bring adversity in my life to prove who it is I rely on HIM or me. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” Even though that’s God’s TRUTH how will I know its TRUTH for my life if I’m never severely tested? I’ve learned that God also allows me to go through adversity and trials to strengthen my faith. God loves you and me enough to do that. Yes, you and I experience life’s hardships for the very same reason- GOD LOVES US.

There have been those times in my life when I felt I couldn’t go another step but God released something (grace) into my inner man which renewed my strength and gave me hope. Have you ever been there? You ever felt like you’d reached the end of your rope? No way were you going to survive and then darkness became light and weakness became strength. In other words a MIRACLE occurred.

“He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might he increaseth strength”.

Through it all I’ve learned that trials, adversity, and pressure are not signs that God is mad at me or that I’ve done something wrong. But they are proof that He loves me as a son. He is strengthening me for life’s battles up ahead. Through trials, adversity, and pressure God is actually looking out for me by preparing me for my purpose. It’s just as we say in the gym….”NO PAIN, NO GAIN”! Increase, prosperity, and promotion do come with a price. God literally prepared the way by suffering FOR me (us). And then He orchestrates, guides, and strengthens me when I am confronted by the difficulties of life.
